In 1692, Danvers was known as Salem Village—and this is where the accusations that would become the Salem Witch Trials first began. Today, you can visit the Salem Village Witchcraft Victims’ Memorial, erected in 1992 to mark the 300th anniversary of the trials. Unlike Salem’s memorial honoring the 20 executed, this memorial recognizes all 25 people who died as a result of the witchcraft crisis. It’s one of several historic sites still standing or marked throughout Danvers that connect us directly to the events of 1692. Would you visit the sites of old Salem Village? 🕯️
