This charming part of Salem is often missed by visitors, even though it’s just a short walk from downtown. And if you look closely at the historic photo, you’ll spot the building that is now @mercytavern, one of our favorite Salem restaurants. 334 years ago today, August 19, 1692, five people 334 years ago today, August 19, 1692, five people lost their lives during the Salem Witch Trials. George Burroughs, Martha Carrier, George Jacobs Sr., John Proctor, and John Willard were hanged after being convicted of witchcraft. August 19 would become the deadliest day for men during the Salem Witch Trials, with four men and one woman executed. Listen as Seàn shares the story of what unfolded on August 19, 1692. May their names never be forgotten. 🕯️

Save this for your next visit to Salem! 📌 📍Fort Pickering + Winter Island — Explore the remains of historic Fort Pickering, see the lighthouse, walk along the harbor, or head down to Waikiki Beach. The site’s military history stretches back to the 1600s. 📍McIntire Historic District — Wander through one of Salem’s most beautiful neighborhoods, filled with incredible Federal-era architecture and the work and influence of Salem architect and woodcarver Samuel McIntire. 📍Greenlawn Cemetery — Dating back to 1807, Greenlawn is Salem’s largest cemetery, with beautiful historic monuments, tree-lined paths, and the stunning Dickson Memorial Chapel. 📍Harmony Grove Cemetery — Founded in 1840, this historic garden cemetery was designed as a peaceful, park-like landscape and is filled with beautiful monuments and Salem history. 📍Salem Willows — A seaside destination with harbor views, beaches, picnic spots, food stands, an old-school arcade, and plenty of space to step away from the craziness of downtown. 📍Forest River Park — A beautiful waterfront park with rolling lawns, beaches, walking paths, and Pioneer Village, originally built in 1930 for Salem’s Tercentenary. Salem gets busy, but there is so much more of this city to explore. These are some of our favorite spots — tell us if we missed yours! 🖤
